Radio Laxy

Radio Laxy was run by Tony Boylan and first appeared from his home in Rathmines in south Dublin in the 1950s.
Tony had started The Killeen Home Service in 1944, which evolved in to Radio 200. It was Radio 200 which attracted unwanted attention from the authorities and led to Tony closing down – until he came back with Radio Laxy.
Laxy’s first incarnation didn’t last too long – Tony moved house to the north Dublin suburb of Ballymun where he started The Ballymun Home Service. However, Laxy did return with sporadic broadcasts in the ’70s.
A number of these are recorded in the FRCI Newsletter edition number 2, the first for April 18th 1971 on 217metres from 1-1.30pm.
Other dates of transmission noted were October 1st 1971, and then regular transmissions from November 9th 1971. Boylan never identified himself on the air and played a mixture of old-time records.
