Westside Radio was a 1980s Dublin pirate station which broadcast on 1035kHz / 290metres.
Previously known as Double R Radio, on February 29th 1982 they changed name to Westside Radio, relaunching from new studios which were based in a room above the Brown Derby pub on James Street in Dublin 8. They were forced to leave there due to allegations of looting against a member of the station’s crew. Shortly afterwards -March 1983 – a fire destroyed the building but, although suspected, no connection to the station was established.
The station relocated to just outside Mulhuddart village in a room above Dollys Lounge Pub on the back road behind Corduff heading to the Kilbride Road. Not long afterwards they set up in a caravan in the car park.
Live programming was usually from 7am to midnight, sometimes running until 3am.
The station ceased as a precaution on the afternoon of Sunday, May 22nd 1983. This followed the raids on Radio Nova and Sunshine Radio a few days earlier. They had received a tip-off from within the P&T that more stations were going to be hit on Monday morning.
They returned within days but by July 1983 they had folded as the pub was being sold.
