SUNRISE RADIO
Sunrise Radio first broadcast from Swords in north Co Dublin on a temporary basis between March and June 2005. It was mainly aimed at Asian listeners.
The station returned in March 2006 with a second temporary licence and offering a wider selection of programmes aimed at a wider cultural background broadcasting on 94.9MHz.
It was operated by Irfan Malik and broadcast in 11 different languages. Malik’s ultimate aim was to apply for a full-time licence but the BCI changed their policy from the following year, expecting any broadcaster to cater for Ireland’s changing multi-cultural landscape within the scope of their licence rather than specifically license an ethnic station.
