STYC Radio

St Teresa’s Youth Club Radio was a festival-based station which was located in Mount Merrion in Dublin. It originally operated in 1983 as part of the Dave Reddy / CBC network of stations.
Inspired by the earlier CBC station, a handful of the youth club members decided to return for the duration of the Mount Merrion Festival in August 1986. The Youth Club was celebrating its 21st year at this point and Greg Manahan – the club leader – used this as an excuse to step up the annual festival (which had been a lot more low-key in 1984 and 1985) and bring back the radio station.
For both runs the studio was based in the projection room in the old Stella Cinema in Mount Merrion, which was donated to the station by Flanagan’s Furniture, who were the owners at the time. It broadcast on 88.0MHz and 963kHz, with technical help from John Marren.
