Was known as WBEN until late 1987
History
South Coast Radio broadcast on 98.5MHz and was a relaunch of Cork station WBEN, which had been on air since 1985. It was felt that the new name would give them a better chance when applying for a licence.
Based in premises in Washington Street, the station eventually moved to the Togher area of the city, upstairs at the ‘Pyramid’ snooker club.
South Coast Radio closed, along with every other unlicensed station in the country, a few minutes into New Year’s Day 1989.
