Happy Radio first broadcast on the evening of March 17th 1981. Station founder Jim Smith was the first voice heard on air. Happy Radio was based in the Greenacres Country Cub in Rathfarnham but had lots of teething problems – such as equipment that had been paid for never arriving and lots of transmission and technical issues. Jim decided that the name was a jinx and changed it to Treble TR in May
