Downtown Radio, the second last of the original ILR licences in the UK, launched on March 16th 1976 on 295m and served the Belfast area.
A new round of ILR licences in 1980 saw an award to a consortium in Derry which subsequently failed to go to air. Downtown Radio saw an opportunity to extend their service area and these days the station serves the whole of Northern Ireland
