Southside Radio was a pirate station which first appeared on December 18th 1978 broadcasting for a few hours daily to Bray, Co Wicklow. Early transmissions ran until 1am daily starting at 4pm on weekdays and 1pm at weekends. This was later extended to start at 11am daily.

The station were raided on April 25th 1979 although the transmitter was not taken.

In June 1979 a new transmitter was installed increasing the station’s range. However, an attempted staff takeover was thwarted by the owner, Paul Nicholas, who removed the transmitter and the station was off air for a number of weeks.

On their return the signal was weak and the station relocated and immediately improved signal range.

A break-in in 1980 saw their studio and equipment smashed up which forced the station off the air for a few months. They returned in July 1980 having relocated to the Victor Hotel in Dún Laoghaire and broadcasting hours were now around the clock. They closed in May 1982.
