Shannonside Northern Sound
Shannonside Northern Sound is an amalgamation of two separate stations covering five counties in total. Both were awarded licences in 1989 and they joined together in 1995. They use shared resources for news and off-peak programming but most peak-time programmes retain each station’s original identity.
Shannonside Northern Sound operates across counties Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon. It is the coming together of two distinct licensed services which both retain some opt-out identity within the core service. Shannonside FM broadcasts to Longford, Roscopmmon and south Leitrim, whilst Northern Sound is aimed at Cavan and Monaghan. They were each one of the original licensed services following the establishment of a framed network for radio licensing in 1989. In 1995 they opted to join forces and share resources. The station is owned by Radio Kerry holdings.
