Longford pirate station

Legan Local Radio

Legan Local Radio was a pirate station based in Legan in Co Longford. It first appeared in the summer of 1987 and was hobbyist in nature. It was owned and operated by Paddy Darrell, who was later responible for The Big LCR

This [Legan Local Radio] was heard quite by accident on 1/7/87 while passing near Legan near Mullingar. Diverting into the village we eventually saw a caravan parked in a driveway with an FM aerial on top and a very youthful presenter. When we got talking to the owner it seemed he had just set it up as something for his kids and their friends to do during the summer holidays, though presentation wasn’t too bad for the age of the kids. Power approx 5-10W on 103.5MHz. Post to Radiowaves Forum by Sparkgap
