KCLR 96FM began broadcasting in 2004 to the dual counties of Carlow and Kilkenny. It was awarded a licence for a newly-created franchise area which saw the demise of two of the original licensed services.
Owned by CK Broadcasting Ltd, KCLR 96FM broadcasts to Carlow and Kilkenny, which together on a map form the shape of a heart, hence their tagline 'the heart of the two counties'.
It began broadcasting in May 2004 on a licence for a newly-created franchise area and operates as a commercial radio station from its studios in Kilkenny.
Programming consists of a mix of regional news, sports, current affairs, local obituaries, and adult contemporary music
As a local radio station, KCLR FM supports local bands and talents by conducting interviews with artists and songwriters and providing airtime for their music. To jumpstart weekday mornings, the station presents the "KCLR Breakfast" show hosted by John Walsh, airing from 7am to 10am.
