Independent Radio Mayo first appeared in mid 1987.
It broadcast from Moneen in Castlebar, Co Mayo, on 1044kHz at first, but later they moved to 738kHz.
They were also on 95.7-95.9MHz FM with relays on 102 and 103MHz.
The station famously bought the old Radio Leinster transmitter (photos to the left) which had fallen out of use in May 1983 when Leinster closed at the time of the raids on Radio Nova and Sunshine Radio.
