Athlone Independent Radio (on air ID A.I.R.) appeared on October 25th 1986 on 1512kHz (ann. 198metres) but lasted just a week before closing.

Coverage was limited and the station was rumoured to come from the western side of the town.

Presenters heard were Noel Lackey and Ray O’Reilly (ex Athlone Local Radio).
