UK war-time station

American Forces Network

May 1944
Guide for May 1944

During World War II, Derry was home to one of a number of low-powered transmitters across the UK broadcasting to locations where US Forces were based – there were no others in Northern Ireland. Supposedly on low power the station could be heard over most of the north west on 213m.

Programmes were made in London using BBC facilities and relayed across the network of transmitters. They were predominately for entertainment and morale purposes.

The (British) station closed in 1945.
