Alternative Broadcasting Cork was a pirate radio station set up in July 1978 by Stevie Bolger and Tony Gannon following a split from CBC.
It was located in a flat in Montenotte, which overlooked the whole city – making it an ideal location to site an antenna.
ABC Radio was a community-focused service with plenty of local news and interviews which broadcast on 233m. ABC's broadcasting hours were 20 hours a day during the week and around the clock at weekends.
They were raided on September 13th 1978, as was fellow Cork station CBC. They were back on air within 24 hours.
The station closed for good due to internal disagreements in early 1979, replaced by Capital Radio Cork, also on 233 metres, operating from a premises in Tuckey Street.
